iPhone XS vs iPhone X: What's the difference?

Apple reinvented its flagship smartphone last year with all new design, security and (the much talked about) price. Although iPhone X did change everything, Apple stepped up the game and introduced iPhone XS this year with an even higher price tag.  The two phones feel pretty much the same but are there any difference to justify an upgrade.

If you are confused between the two and want to know which one's worth it, here's everything you need to know:

  • ·         Display- Apple ventured into an OLED display with iPhone X. This set the bar and iPhone XS further makes improvement in the display but there isn't much difference in the core specs. The OLED panel of the two phones are identical in size and resolution but iPhone XS delivers        greater dynamic range (about 60%). The Dolby Vision/ HDR10 support makes an improvement in  images and videos in iPhone XS.The 120 Hz touch sensing in the iPhone XS makes it more responsive (twice as responsive) than the iPhone X.Another change Apple made with iPhone XS is the faster face ID facial recognition system, which is slower on the iPhone X and considering the number of time we unlock our phones, this change is welcomed.

  • ·       Performance- The A11 chipset in the iPhone X delivered the fastest performance and was ahead of its competitors last year. Now, the new A12 Bionic chipset in iPhone XS brings even better performance to retain the crown. The iPhone XS promises a 50% leap in the graphics and power efficiency.  The A12 Bionic chipset boosts an increase in peak performance too. The 600 MHz support in iPhone XS is another great addition, covers great distances and delivers coverage in areas without signals.

  • ·         Camera- The A12 Bionic chipset includes a new image signal processor (ISP) that improves camera in the new iPhone. The camera quality of the two phones is at par with 12 MP wide angle lens and 12 MP telephoto shooter with 7 MP True Depth for selfies. The sensor of the iPhone XS has changed to 1.4 microns with deeper pixels. The iPhone XS captures more exposure in a shorter time and reduces the shutter lag point. The sensor in the iPhone XS captures light in darker settings as well.

  • ·   Battery life- The iPhone X has many pros but great battery life isn't one of them but Apple has improved this with the new iPhone XS. The iPhone XS has the battery capacity of 2659 mAh which is smaller than the 2716 mAh battery of the iPhone X. Overall, the battery, even though being smaller than the iPhone X is better than its predecessors.

If you have an iPhone X, upgrading to iPhone XS wouldn't make much sense as the improvements, even though smart, are few and far in-between. If, however, you have skipped iPhone X then iPhone XS has much to offer.
