Before you take your cell phone for repair

Cell phones have just like our personal journals. Everything from where we are to our work and leisure, it's all in there. Right from our list of contacts to countless memories, it's all out there for us to revisit and explore.

But we forget all about this confidential and highly private data when we go for cell phone repairs. You need not worry about data theft if you're visiting a reputed store for cell phone repair in Toronto like iFix Mobile. Even that doesn't mean you shouldn't take necessary precautions before you take your cell phone for repair. The most crucial one is data backup.

Data Backup and Formatting
It's advisable that you take data backup and update backup files from time to time whether your phone is damaged or not. It's a prophylaxis that lets you worry less in case you have to carry out an emergency formatting in case of malware or suspicion of theft.

Even if it's a minor charging port damage that requires just a couple of hours to fix, you must take backup and wipe out all the data from your phone. The backup data can be restored after your phone is fixed.

iPhone Backup
You can backup your iPhone on iCloud or iTunes. For iCloud backup, go to Settings, select iCloud, click on Storage and Backup, and then select Backup Now. Your data will be uploaded on iCloud server. Connect to iTunes if you're inclined on using the same for backup.

Once you've taken backup, go to Settings, and choose the General option. Select Reset and Erase All Content. It'll restore your phone to factory settings.

When you get your repaired phone back, restore your phone from i Cloud or iTunes Backup after making language settings.

Android Backup
When you buy an Android phone, you're asked to select a Google Account for all services. Once you enter a valid Google Account in Settings and Accounts, you can sync all the data to that account and everything will automatically be saved on Google servers. You can even sign into Google Drive and backup your data.

To wipe out data from your Android phone, just formatting is not enough. You'll also need to encrypt data as unlike iPhone, erased data can be retrieved from Android phones. Before you apply default Factory settings, go to Settings, choose Security, and select Encrypt Phone. That'll take some time. After that, go to Settings, select Backup and Reset, and then restore phone to Factory Settings.

To restore data after repair, go to Settings, choose Backup and Restore under Personal, and choose Automatic Restore. The steps may vary from device to device but syncing with a Google Account is the most important part of Android backup.

Most importantly you should choose reliable third party stores for cell phone repairs in Toronto, like iFix Mobile, to ensure peace of mind while your cell phone is being repaired.
